Flam is a little village at the mouth of the  Flamselvi River that dumps its icecold waters in the Aurlandsfjorden, the
south branch of the mighty Sognefjorden.

The first reference to Flam dates back to 1340, a church was built here in
		1670.

Since the 1960s Flam has become a major tourist destination. Cruise ships call port to unload half a million tourists
per annum. No wonder locals start complaining about pollution and destruction of their normal cozy way of life.

		All those tourist
come for only one thing, a ride on the Flamsbana to Myrdal station.

This 20 km long railway features scenic and
sometimes impressive views of snow covered mountains, roaring rivers and waterfalls and picturesque valleys.

		Plans
for a railway were made as early as 1871, construction started in 1924 and the line became operational in 1940.

		It can be
very crowded in summer, so you better buy tickets in advance.

We rode the Flamsbana in July 2014.
