Nusfjord is an age-old cod fishing hamlet on the island Flakstadoya in the southern part of the Lofoten archipelago.

		Since
400 AD people have lived and fished here. From the 1800's the main catch is
cod, which is dried in the open to produce
stockfish for
		export.

In spring there is still some fishing going on, but in summer the well preserved colorful houses are rented
		out as hotel rooms.

Nusfjord features a small natural harbor with houses built on sturdy wooden bridges that surround
the water. A smart way to have your boat always nearby!

The place is a sort of open air museum with an old sawmill,
a bakery, a cod smokery and of course a large restaurant to feed the hungry tourists.

		Nusfjord receives many tourists
from the cruise ships that call port at
Leknes, less than 30 km away.

We visited Nusfjord in June 2013.
