It was here that the world's oldest
existing parliament first assembled in 930 AD, a practice which continued till 1271 when Iceland was brought under Norwegian
rule.
The park is situated on the crest of the Mid Atlantic Rift where the european and american tectonic plates diverge.The
resulting cracks and faults fill with cristal clear water, making it a prime snorkeling and diving spot.
The landscape around
lake Thingvallavatn is of an exceptional beauty with ridges, lakes and streams.
In summer the park is visited by droves
of tourists that travel the Golden Circle.
