		Qorikancha,
or Golden Palace, was dedicated to Inti, the Sun God.  The Incas considered it to be the navel of the world.
		It
was the most important temple of their culture and the final resting place for the mummies of Inca rulers.

		The walls were covered by
plates of solid gold and golden statues were abound.

The Spanish conquerors thoroughly robbed the place, demolished it and
build the Santo Domingo church and convent right on top of if.

After a devastating earthquake in 1950, the church suffered great damage,
which revealed the original Inca temple walls and inner courts. These stone works stayed mostly intact because of the superior dry
		stone wall construction method.

We visited Qorikancha in June 2008.
