Ystad is a little town on the southcoast of Sweden featuring some of Sweden's best preserved medieval buildings and streets.

		In
the 11th century there was already a small herring fishing settlement where the Vassa river flows into the sea, but Ystad
is first mentioned in documents of
king Erik Ploughpenny in the year 1244.
Like the rest of
Scania Ystad was part of Denmark till 1658.

		Ystad
has an busy ferry terminal and draws many tourists, mainly because the town and its surroundings feature so prominently
in the stories of Henning Mankells
Kurt Wallander detective stories.

A few kilometrs east of Ystan are the remains of
Ale's
stones, an old norse stone ship monument.

We visited Ystad in September 2015.
