Ocean Race 2023: Start of leg 7 in the Hague
In 2018 the Volvo Ocean Race finished in the city of the Hague, with Dong Feng as winner, just ahead of MAPFRE
In June
2023 the Hague hosted the race again, this time for the finish of leg 6 from Aerhus and the start of the
final leg 7 to Genova.
On June 15th I watched the start of the IMOCAs, on their way to Genova.
There was plenty of sun and good winds,
but not that many spectators.
Right from the start,
Team Holcim took the lead and rounded all the buoys first before heading
out to the Channel and beyond.
Luckily there
were no casualties and both boats could return suavely to the harbor.
GUYOT retired from the race, but, after repairs, 11th
Hour made it to Genova, where the World Sailing International July awarded them 4 points of redress. These points were enough
to claim the overall victory in an eventfully Ocean Race 2023.
