The nature reserves Hedelse Bovenwaard and Empelse Waard are separated by the Maas, but for birds it is one
area as the landscape is pretty similar with flowery meadows and young riparian forests.

		Wings do have certain advantages.
You see many songbird species here, like Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Linnet, colorful Chaffinch, Willow Warbler, Greenfinch and Song Thrush.
The forests are home to noisy families of Long-tailed Tits, Great Tits, Blackbirds and Great Spotted Woodpeckers.
Occasionally you may spot a Stock Dove, a soaring Sparrow Hawk and, when you are really lucky, a Common Cuckoo.
I use
a Canon SX70 HS camera to shoot the birds. This camera may not always produce super-sharp images, but its extreme focal
length of 1365 mm and low weight allows you to wander around and get close-ups of the birds while keeping your distance.
